24 Peaks 2009

Seafarers UK is very pleased to announce that it is on the way to raising over £115,000 thanks to the commitment of all of the 16 teams who took part in our gruelling Seafarers UK 24 Peaks Challenge over the weekend of 18th and 19th July 2009.

In generally great weather, representatives from OSG Ship Management, Lloyd’s Register, MOL, Associated British Ports, Maersk, Thomas Miller P&I, Jotun Paints, Carisbrooke Shipping, Burgess Yachts and NYK Line took part with at least one representative from every team completing the challenge. Well done to you all!

Set in the stunning Lake District, the teams climbed 24 peaks all over 2,400 feet in 24 hours. The weather allowed them to make the most of some of the most stunning views the UK has to offer. Teams had to train for the massive challenge in the months leading up to the event and their hard work certainly paid off with some super speedy times and many saying they intend to return next year in order to beat their time.

The fastest team of the weekend and the new record holders for The Seafarers UK 24 Peaks Challenge were, the PT Staff from HMS Nelson who finished in an astounding 16 hours and 23 minutes. The team’s success should be no great surprise considering that when the team aren’t scaling mountains for a great cause, their job is to train the physical trainers of the Royal Navy!

On completion of the challenge, all teams attended the post-event reception at the Low Wood Hotel and some even found the energy to embarrass themselves on the dance floor!

Seafarers UK is very grateful to all the teams for doing such an amazing job with their fundraising and making sure a fantastic weekend was enjoyed by all. If you would like details of next year’s event please contact us on:
