3rd Feb 2010

Supporters of Seafarers UK are being offered the chance to win a trip to Mexico. The competition is being run by ferry company Norfolkline to mark the departure of the fleet’s oldest ship the Saga Moon after 25 years of service. After having made over 14,000 voyages, travelling a total of more than 1.6 million nautical miles (enough nautical miles to go round the earth 63 times), carrying 766,950 trucks and trailers, 198,363 new cars and 30,479 horse boxes, the ship has been sold to a company in Mexico and is setting sail for a new home in the Gulf of California, Mexico.

New small grants scheme goes live

5th Jan 2010

Seafarers UK has launched a new small grants scheme for charities wanting a grant of £5000 or less. The money can be used to fund for projects, schemes or activities that involve seafarers, ex-seafarers or their families. The funding is for work that supports people who have been in the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Merchant Navy or fishing fleets and their families. Charities that sometimes help UK or Commonwealth seafarers or their families are welcome to apply if they can demonstrate that the grant would support current or ex-seafarers or their families.

ABP Climbs to Fundraising Success

Seafarers UK is pleased to announce the winning fundraising teams for this year’s 24 Peaks Challenge – one of the shipping industry’s leading charity challenge events. ABP employees were followed by a team from Thomas Miller who raised £13,000 and Jotun Paints who raised £8,600.
