What are you waiting for?

London Marathon 08 a huge success for Seafarers!

Congratulations and a huge thank you to everyone who ran the London Marathon in aid of Seafarers UK this year.

In total 33 runners ran on behalf of the charity, a fantastic figure that should lead to some vital funds being raised to help seafarers and there families in the UK. The runners had varied conditions along the 26 mile route with blasts of warm sunshine being closely followed by cold downpours of rain throughout the course.

Several supporters helped keep the runners going throughout there journey with Seafarers UK staff supporting them at mile 17 and mile 24. Many of the runners and there families joined the charity’s staff to celebrate upon HQS Wellington after the event.

Seafarers UK events manager Lee Dobbins was one of the many runners this year raising funds for the charity finishing the 26 mile route in an amazing 3 hours and 40 minutes and has so far raised over £3000.

The final fundraising total from all the runners’ efforts is expected to be in the region of £55,000.

If you are interested in joining Team Seafarers UK in this fantastic race next year then please visit www.crunch.org.uk/seafarers  and pledge to raise at least £1300. When filling in your application form please mention that you have come direct from the Seafarers UK website.

The official London Marathon ballot is now open and closes in October. If you are one of the lucky people to gain a place when the announcements are made in December please do let us know. You will still have access to support from the Seafarers UK staff but you will not have to pledge to raise a minimum of £1300.
